Sandburg Softball Closes Out Spring Break Trip to Gulf Coast

The Carl Sandburg College closed out its Spring Break trip to the Gulf Coast with a pair of losses Thursday at Coastal Alabama-North.

The Warhawks shut out the Chargers 7-0 in Game 1 and scratched across a late run to defeat Sandburg 5-4 in Game 2.

Key Moments

  • A leadoff walk by Macayla Gibson led to the Warhawks plating the game-winner in the sixth. A groundout pushed her to third with one out, and she scored on a passed ball.
  • Trailing 3-0 in the fifth, the Chargers tied the game as Erin Flairty (Pekin, Ill./Pekin) plated Haley Stevenson (Galesburg, Ill./Galesburg) with a double to left and Sophie Whitford (Macomb, Ill./Macomb) knocked in a pair with a double to center.
  • Coastal Alabama-North regained the lead with an unearned run in the fifth, but the Chargers answered back in the top of the sixth. Katie Droste (Biggsville, Ill./West Central) led off the inning with a walk and scored from first when the Warhawks’ center fielder misplayed Lauryn Campbell’s (Galesburg, Ill./Galesburg) base hit.

Sandburg Standout
Lizzie Malcolm (Moline, Ill./Alleman) singled in each of her two at-bats, accounting for two of the Chargers’ 11 hits.
